Simulation of transient phenomena in the electrical machine by finite element method (2018 - 2019)

The objective of the project is double. 1. First, the overlapping method has to be validated through the modelling of a simple machine such as a synchronous permanent magnet machine in 2D. Moreover, as the mechanical equation was also added, it should be validated as well.
2. Secondly, the run up of an induction machine should be simulated and the results compared to the measurements. This induction machine is used as a pump in electrical nuclear power plant and needs to be modelled in 3D to take into account the leakage flux.

A EDF Lab à Saclay, le département ERMES de EDF R&D met en place un nouveau banc d’essais dédié à l’étude des génératrices à échelles réduites, représentatives des génératrices utilisées dans les énergies renouvelables. De plus, dans le cadre du laboratoire commun LAMEL, le département ERMES co-développe avec le laboratoire L2ep le code_Carmel (code de calcul de champ électromagnétique par éléments finis).

Electrical motor reduced model implementation in circuit simulator (2017-2018)

In the electrical engineering field and more generally in electrical industry, the numerical simulation allows to obtain very accurate information about a system behavior at an early stage of development. Indeed, testing an industrial electrical device can sometimes be harmful for itself, or very expensive to set-up. However, the computational cost maybe very important with finite element method, for instance, because of a high number of unknowns, or strong nonlinearities in the system.

Force computation in finite element software (2017-2018)

In the electrical engineering field and more generally in electrical industry, the numerical simulation allows to obtain very accurate information about a system behaviour at an early stage of development. For instance, force calculation is a key parameter for electrical machine design for classical devices like turbogenerator, transformers and motors or more recent technologies used in Sustainable Development. Finite element calculations give more or less straighforward approaches to compute these quantities [1].
